How it works
How the favicon downloader works
- 01
Enter a website
Any public site, not only Shopify stores.
- 02
It finds every icon
Icon links in the page head, the Apple touch icon, icons listed in the web app manifest, and the classic /favicon.ico.
- 03
It measures each file
You see the real format and pixel size of each file, not just what the page claims, and can download it.
Reading the results
Which icon is which
favicon.ico
The classic browser-tab icon. One file can hold several sizes, which the tool lists.
Icon (PNG or SVG)
The modern favicon. SVG icons stay sharp at any size.
Apple touch icon
Used when someone adds the site to an iPhone or iPad home screen. Usually 180 × 180.
Manifest icons
Used by Android and installed web apps, usually 192 × 192 and 512 × 512.
Mask icon
A one-color SVG Safari uses for pinned tabs.
Putting it to work
Getting your own favicon right
- 01
Upload a large square file
In the Shopify theme editor, Theme settings has a favicon field. Upload a square PNG of at least 96 × 96 so it stays sharp.
- 02
Think about Google results
Google shows favicons next to search results and asks for a square icon in a multiple of 48 px. Run your store here to see what you serve.
- 03
Keep it simple
At 16 pixels a detailed logo turns into a smudge. Use your logo mark or one letter.
What the downloader can’t do
- Read icons that only appear after JavaScript runs.
- Download files over 300 KB, or more than ten icons per site.
- Read sites that block automated tools in robots.txt.

FAQ
Questions about the Favicon Downloader
What it reads, what it can’t see, and how to use the result.
Ask me about your storeHow do I download a website’s favicon?
Enter the site above and press the download button under the icon you want. By hand, you’d look in the page source for <link rel="icon"> and open the file it points to.
What size should a Shopify favicon be?
Upload a square image of at least 96 × 96 pixels, ideally 192 × 192 or larger. Shopify resizes it for browser tabs. Google asks for a square favicon in a multiple of 48 px for search results.
Why isn’t my favicon showing in Google?
Google recrawls favicons on its own schedule, so changes take time. Make sure the icon is square, linked from the home page and not blocked by robots.txt. This tool shows exactly what your home page declares.
Can I use another website’s favicon?
For a mock-up, a presentation or a link preview, generally yes. Don’t use it as your own icon: logos are usually trademarks.
