How it works
How the fees calculator works
- 01
Pick your region and billing
US or UK list prices, billed monthly or yearly. Yearly billing is cheaper but paid upfront.
- 02
Enter your sales
Monthly sales, number of orders, how many customers pay with international or Amex cards, and whether you use Shopify Payments.
- 03
Compare the plans
Each plan’s total monthly cost and the share of your sales it takes. The cheapest plan for your numbers is marked.
The numbers
What goes into the total
Plan price
Shopify’s list price for your region, checked on shopify.com on 21 October 2026. New stores are often offered a lower price for the first months. The calculator uses standard prices.
Card processing
What Shopify Payments charges per order: a percentage of the order plus a fixed fee. Higher plans pay a lower percentage.
International and Amex cards
Cards issued abroad, and Amex in the UK, cost more to process. Set the share of orders paid this way.
Third-party transaction fee
If you take payments through another provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds 2%, 1% or 0.6% depending on the plan. Your provider’s own fee comes on top.
Apps and other costs
Monthly app subscriptions and anything else you pay every month, such as a theme spread over a year.
Break-even point
The monthly sales level at which the next plan up becomes cheaper, because its lower rates make up for its higher price.
Putting it to work
How to use the result
- 01
Pick a plan for your real volume
Use last month’s sales, not your hopes. Upgrading early costs money every month.
- 02
Check before peak season
If Black Friday will push you past the break-even point, switch plans for those months and back afterwards.
- 03
Compare payment providers fairly
A provider with a lower rate can still cost more once Shopify’s third-party fee is added. Enter both and compare.
What the calculator leaves out
- Shopify Plus, which starts at $2,300 a month in the US and has negotiated rates.
- Currency conversion fees, chargebacks, taxes, shipping labels and Shopify POS hardware.
- Rates outside the US and UK. Use the edit option to enter your own.

FAQ
Questions about the Shopify Fees Calculator
How the numbers are worked out and where the rates come from.
Ask me about your storeHow much does Shopify cost per month?
In the US, on 21 October 2026, Basic was $25 a month billed monthly or $19 billed yearly, Grow $65 or $49, and Advanced $399 or $299. Card processing and any app subscriptions come on top, which is what this calculator adds up.
What is Shopify’s transaction fee?
If you use Shopify Payments, there’s no extra transaction fee, only card processing. If you use another payment provider, Shopify charges 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced, on top of that provider’s fee. Every fee, with a worked example, is in Shopify fees explained.
When should I upgrade from Basic to Grow?
When your monthly sales pass the break-even point the calculator shows. Below it, Basic’s lower price wins. Above it, Grow’s lower card rate saves more than the extra plan cost. Grow also adds features, such as more staff accounts, which may matter sooner.
Are the US card rates official?
Shopify doesn’t print US card rates on its pricing page. The calculator starts from Shopify’s standard US online rates (2.9% + 30¢ on Basic, 2.7% + 30¢ on Grow and 2.5% + 30¢ on Advanced). Check Settings > Payments in your admin and edit them if yours differ. The UK rates are the ones on Shopify’s UK pricing page.
Does yearly billing save money?
Yes, about a quarter on Basic and Grow, but you pay the year upfront. It suits stores that are sure they’ll stay on the same plan.
