Fetches the page you enter. Nothing on it runs, and nothing about you is stored.

How the source code viewer works

  1. 01

    Enter a page

Any public address, including product or collection pages.

  2. 02

    It requests the page

The same request a browser makes, following redirects. The tool respects robots.txt.

  3. 03

You read and search the code

Line numbers, quick searches for common tags, the status code and the main response headers. Nothing in the page runs.

What you’re looking at

Source, not the live page

This is the HTML the server sends, before any JavaScript runs. Browser inspect tools show the page after scripts have changed it.

Status code

200 means the page loaded. 301 and 302 are redirects, which the tool follows and reports. 404 means not found.

Response headers

Instructions sent with the page: content type, caching, security rules, and sometimes the platform behind the site.

Quick searches

One tap jumps to tags people check most: canonical, structured data (ld+json), robots, Open Graph and Shopify’s theme settings.

Useful checks to run

  1. 01

Check SEO tags on a product page

Search for canonical, description and ld+json. Each product should have its own description and Product data.

  2. 02

Confirm a tracking code is installed

Search for the ID from your ads or analytics account, such as G- or AW-.

  3. 03

See what a theme or app adds

Compare the source before and after you install an app to see the code it puts on every page.

What the viewer can’t show

  • Content added by JavaScript after the page loads.
  • Shopify’s Liquid code. Liquid runs on Shopify’s servers; the browser only ever gets the finished HTML.
  • Pages larger than 1.5 MB (the rest is cut off), pages behind a login, and sites that block automated tools.

Questions about the Source Code Viewer

What it reads, what it can’t see, and how to use the result.

Ask me about your store
How do I view page source on a phone?

Mobile browsers hide view-source. Enter the page address above and the full source opens here, with line numbers and search.

Why is this different from Inspect Element?

Inspect shows the page after JavaScript has changed it. This shows what the server sent. Search engines read the server’s version first, so it’s the one to check for SEO tags.

Can I see a Shopify store’s Liquid code?

No. Liquid templates are turned into HTML on Shopify’s servers, so nobody outside the store can see them. You can see the finished HTML, including the theme settings Shopify prints into every page.

Is it safe to view a page here?

Yes. The page is fetched by the server and shown as plain text. No scripts from it run in your browser.

How do I view the page source code of a website?

On a computer, right-click the page and choose View page source, or press Ctrl+U (Cmd+Option+U on a Mac). On a phone, paste the address into this viewer to see the same HTML with line numbers and search.
