What it checks
What the Shopify store checker looks at
Twenty-five checks in three groups. Each one is something I look at first when I review a Shopify store.

SEO
Can Google find your pages, understand them and show them well in search results?
- 01
Home page title
The title is the blue link in Google. A clear title of about 30 to 60 characters gets more clicks.
- 02
Meta description
This is the grey text under your link in Google. A good one turns a search result into a visit.
- 03
One H1 heading
The H1 tells search engines what the page is about. Most pages should have exactly one.
- 04
Canonical tag
It tells Google which URL is the main version of a page, so ranking signals aren't split.
- 05
Home page can be indexed
A noindex tag keeps the page out of Google completely.
- 06
Image alt text
Alt text helps images show up in Google Images and makes your store usable with a screen reader.
- 07
Store structured data
Organization and WebSite data help Google understand your brand, logo and site name.
- 08
Product structured data
Product data with price and stock can earn rich results in Google and helps AI assistants read your products.
- 09
Product page title and description
Each product needs its own title and description, or Google rewrites them and clicks drop.
- 10
Clean product links
Links like /collections/name/products/item create duplicate URLs for the same product.
- 11
XML sitemap
The sitemap lists your pages so Google can find new products quickly.
- 12
robots.txt
robots.txt tells crawlers what to skip and where your sitemap is.
- 13
Social sharing tags
Open Graph tags control the title and image when someone shares your store on social media or in chat apps.
5 checks
Speed
What in the page code slows the first view down, especially on a phone?
- 01
Page size
A very large home page takes longer to download and render on mobile data.
- 02
Apps and third-party scripts
Every app script costs load time, and old apps often keep loading after you stop using them.
- 03
Render-blocking scripts
Scripts in the page head without async or defer stop the page from showing until they load.
- 04
Lazy loading for images
Images further down the page shouldn't load before the visitor scrolls to them.
- 05
Image width and height
When images have no size set, the page jumps around while it loads. Google measures this as layout shift.
7 checks
Trust and conversion
Does the store look safe, finished and easy to buy from for a first-time visitor?
- 01
Secure connection
Visitors and Google expect every page on https, with http redirecting to it.
- 02
Mobile layout
Without the viewport tag, phones show a zoomed-out desktop page.
- 03
Policy links
Shoppers look for refund, shipping and privacy information before they pay.
- 04
Contact page
An easy way to get in touch reassures first-time buyers.
- 05
Product reviews
Reviews are one of the strongest reasons people buy from a store they don't know.
- 06
Favicon
The small icon in browser tabs and Google results makes your store look finished.
- 07
Page language
The language attribute helps translation tools, screen readers and search engines.
How it works
How the Shopify store checker works
- 01
Enter your store URL
Your custom domain or your .myshopify.com address. The store needs to be public, not password protected.
- 02
The checker reads public pages
It loads your home page, one product page, robots.txt and the sitemap, the same pages Google can see.
- 03
You get a scored report
Every check gets a pass, a warning or a fail, with a short reason and a fix you can act on.
What an automated check can't tell you
- How fast the store feels to real visitors. That data comes from Chrome users and shows in Search Console and PageSpeed Insights.
- Your conversion rate, your checkout or anything that needs your analytics.
- Apps that load through Shopify's customer events, such as some analytics pixels. They run in a sandbox the checker can't see.
- Whether your copy, photos and offer are convincing. That takes a person looking at the store.

FAQ
Shopify store checker questions
Short answers about what the checker does and doesn't do.
Is the Shopify store checker free?
Yes. There's no sign-up and nothing in the report is locked. You can run a few checks an hour.
Does it work with any Shopify store?
It works with any public Shopify store, on a custom domain or a .myshopify.com address. It can't check a store that is password protected or not built on Shopify.
Why is my speed result different from PageSpeed Insights?
This tool reads your page code and looks for common causes of slow pages, such as app scripts and images that don't lazy load. PageSpeed Insights loads the page in a browser and measures it. Use both: this one shows likely causes, PageSpeed shows the effect.
Do you store my store URL or my results?
Results are kept for 30 minutes so a repeat check is quick, then they're deleted. The checker doesn't ask for or store any personal details.
Will running the checker affect my store?
No. It reads a few public pages, the same way a search engine does. Nothing is changed and nothing is installed.
