Reads two public pages. Nothing is installed and nothing about you is stored.

How the app detector works

  1. 01

    Enter a store

Any public Shopify store. The tool opens the home page and one product page, because review and upsell apps often load only there.

  2. 02

    It matches app files

Apps load code from their own servers. The tool compares every file the pages load with a list of more than 100 app signatures.

  3. 03

    You see the evidence

Each app comes with the domain or file that gave it away, how sure the match is, and what the app is for.

What the results mean

High confidence

The page loads a file from the app’s own server, such as static.klaviyo.com for Klaviyo. The app is installed and running on that page.

Medium confidence

The app’s domain appears in the page code but no file loads from it. It’s often a setting, a disabled feature, or code left behind after the app was removed.

App embeds we can’t name

Shopify app extensions load from folders named by their developer. When the name doesn’t match a known app, you see the folder name so you can look it up.

Customer-event pixels

Many tracking apps run inside Shopify’s pixel sandbox, where their code isn’t on the page. The tool counts them and names the ones whose settings say who they are, such as Google, Meta or TikTok.

Nothing found

Doesn’t mean no apps. Inventory, accounting, shipping and many checkout apps never touch the storefront.

How to use the app list

  1. 01

    Build a shortlist

When three stores you admire use the same reviews app, that’s the one to trial first.

  2. 02

    Audit your own store

Run your store and compare the list with your installed apps. Anything here that you’ve removed is leftover code, and it may still slow the store down.

  3. 03

    Weigh speed against features

Each app on the storefront adds load time. Pair this list with the speed checker to see which ones cost the most.

What the app detector can’t see

  • Apps that run only in the admin, the checkout or the back office.
  • Apps that load only after a click, a scroll or on pages other than the two it reads.
  • Apps outside its signature list. Their files still show as unnamed app embeds or third-party scripts.

Questions about the Shopify App Detector

What it reads, what it can’t see, and how to use the result.

Ask me about your store
How can I see what apps a Shopify store uses?

Enter the store above. By hand, you’d open the page source and look for scripts loading from app domains, such as judge.me or static.klaviyo.com. The detector does that across two pages and more than 100 known apps at once. For the manual method in detail, read how to see what apps a Shopify store uses.

Why doesn’t it show an app I know the store uses?

Either the app doesn’t touch the storefront (many don’t), it only loads on other pages, or it isn’t in the signature list yet. Apps that run as customer-event pixels are counted, but only named when their settings make it clear.

What does medium confidence mean?

The app’s address is in the page code, but the page doesn’t load a file from it. Treat it as “probably installed, or recently removed”.

Can it find apps I uninstalled but that left code behind?

Often, yes. Uninstalling an app doesn’t always remove what it added to your theme. If the detector lists an app you’ve removed, that code is still loading and can be cleaned up.

Do more apps make a Shopify store slower?

Usually, yes. Each storefront app adds scripts, and some load before the page can show. The number matters less than which apps they are, so check the speed checker’s third-party list as well.
