Custom Shopify app development

When an app cannot solve the problem, build the tool your operation actually needs.

The Shopify App Store covers common needs well. It gets expensive and fragile when you stack several subscriptions to approximate one workflow, or when your process is simply different from everyone else's.

A custom app does one job the way your business works: routing orders, syncing data with another system, adding a storefront feature, or giving your team an internal tool that removes manual work.

What’s included

  • Public and private Shopify apps

Custom apps for a single store, or public apps built to Shopify's requirements for distribution.

  • Node.js, React, Admin API, Storefront API, GraphQL and webhooks

Modern, supported Shopify APIs, with webhooks so the app reacts to orders, products and inventory as they change.

  • Theme app extensions

Storefront features that merchants can place in the theme editor and that load only where they are used.

  • Custom integrations

Connections between Shopify and ERPs, warehouses, CRMs or other platforms your business depends on.

  • Internal operational apps and automation

Admin tools that replace spreadsheets and repetitive manual work for your team.

Signs you need this

  • You pay for several apps that together still do not match your workflow.
  • Your team copies data between Shopify and another system by hand.
  • A storefront feature you need does not exist in any app.
  • An app's limits, fees or performance cost are now holding the store back.

How it works

  1. STEP 01

    Scope

We map the workflow, data and edge cases, and decide whether a custom app is actually the right answer.

  2. STEP 02

    Build

The app is built against current, versioned Shopify APIs, with webhooks and error handling.

  3. STEP 03

    Test

Tested on a development store with realistic data before it touches your live store.

  4. STEP 04

    Maintain

Shopify releases new API versions regularly; the app is kept current so it keeps working.

Questions about Custom Shopify apps.

Specific answers to what clients usually ask about this service.

Ask me about your store
Will a custom app slow down my storefront?

Not if it is built well. Most custom app work happens in the background—on Shopify's servers and webhooks—so it adds nothing to page load. Storefront features use theme app extensions, which load only on the pages where they are placed.

How do you deal with Shopify API changes?

Shopify releases versioned APIs on a regular schedule and retires old versions. Apps are built against a specific version and updated before it expires. If you want that handled for you, we can agree a maintenance arrangement.

Can one custom app replace several subscriptions?

Sometimes. If several apps overlap or only partly fit your process, one focused app can be simpler and cheaper to run over time. If an existing app does the job well, I'll tell you to keep it.
