Overview
Planned, mapped and tested first
BigCommerce and Shopify look alike from the outside: both are hosted, and both handle checkout and updates for you. The differences sit in the data model and the URLs, and that's where a BigCommerce move goes wrong when nobody plans it. Shopify's Store Migration app doesn't list BigCommerce as a source, as checked on 7 November 2026, so the data moves by CSV, a migration app or the API.
BigCommerce exports products, customers and orders as CSV files through its export templates, and recommends the Bulk Edit template for products and customers. I use those exports alongside the BigCommerce API. Variant options map to Shopify options. Modifiers that don't create a variant, such as engraving text, need an app or custom code on Shopify. Custom fields become metafields, and customer groups become customer tags, with their pricing rebuilt as discounts or through an app.
The URLs are the bigger risk. BigCommerce lets each store choose a structure under Settings > URL Structure: short (/product-name), long (/products/product-name), category-based or custom. Shopify's are fixed at /products/ and /collections/. I pull every product, category and page URL from your store, whichever setting you use, and import a 301 redirect for each one before the domain moves.
Customer passwords can't be migrated, but on Shopify's customer accounts customers sign in with an emailed 6-digit code, so nobody is locked out. Reviews move through your new review app's import. Order history goes in after products and customers, with order notifications switched off. Web pages and blog posts move with their SEO titles and descriptions. Every BigCommerce move gets a fixed quote after a free 3‑point review.
Signs it's time to move
- The apps and integrations you want are built for Shopify first.
- Your theme is hard to change without a developer.
- You want Shop Pay and Shopify's checkout for your customers.
- Your team already knows Shopify from another brand.
- Your platform costs no longer match what you get from it.
What the migration includes
Products and options
Products, variant options and images moved, with modifiers and custom fields rebuilt as Shopify options, metafields or app features.
Customers and groups
Customer records and addresses imported, and customer groups turned into tags with their pricing rebuilt.
Order history
Past orders moved by app or API after products and customers, so each order links to the right records.
Redirects for any URL setting
Short, long, category or custom URLs, every one mapped to its Shopify address and imported as a 301 redirect.
Reviews and content
Product reviews moved through your new review app's import, and web pages and blog posts moved with their SEO fields.
Theme and apps
Your BigCommerce theme rebuilt as a Shopify theme, and each BigCommerce app replaced by a Shopify app or feature.
Benefits
Why move BigCommerce with me
Your URL setting checked first
The redirect plan depends on which BigCommerce URL structure you use, so I read it during the free review, not after launch.
SEO and CRO in the same team
I work on Shopify SEO and conversion too, so the new store is set up to keep its rankings and to sell, not only to hold data.

How it works
How the migration works
- 1
Free review and fixed quote
I review your catalog, options, apps and URL settings, send three points on what needs care, then a fixed quote and timeline.
- 2
Map and test import
Products, customers and a sample of orders go into Shopify while BigCommerce keeps selling, and I check them against the original.
- 3
Build and test
Theme, collections, apps, redirects, taxes, shipping and emails are set up and tested, with order notifications off during imports.
- 4
Launch and final sync
Orders and customers since the test import come across, the domain moves and every redirect is checked live.
Is it a fit?
Is this migration right for you
A good fit
- You run BigCommerce and want Shopify's checkout, apps and theme editor.
- Your store has search traffic that depends on its current URLs.
- You use product options, modifiers or customer groups that need careful mapping.
- You want one fixed quote for the whole move.
- You sell in several countries and want Shopify Markets for local currencies and languages.
Not the right fit
- Your store runs well on BigCommerce and you have no feature or cost reason to move.
- You rely on a BigCommerce-only integration with no Shopify version.
- You want the move done in days, with no test import.
- You want your current BigCommerce theme kept exactly as it is.

FAQ
Migration questions, answered.
What store owners ask before moving to Shopify.
Ask me about your storeHow much does a BigCommerce to Shopify migration cost?
There's no set price. It depends on product and variant count, how many orders you keep, your options and modifiers, and which apps need replacing. I review your store for free and send one fixed quote for the whole move, which only changes if the scope does.
Is there an official BigCommerce to Shopify migration app?
Shopify's own Store Migration app doesn't list BigCommerce as a source. The data moves through BigCommerce's CSV exports, a third-party migration app or the API, and I choose the route during the free review.
Will my URLs change?
Yes. Whether your store uses short, long, category or custom URLs, Shopify's paths are fixed at /products/ and /collections/. Every old URL gets a 301 redirect, imported and tested before the domain moves.
What happens to my product options and modifiers?
Variant options become Shopify options. Modifiers that don't change the variant, such as gift messages or engraving, are rebuilt with an app or custom code, so customers can still add them.
Can I keep my order history?
Yes. Orders move by app or API after products and customers, so each order links to the right records. Order notifications are switched off during the import.
Do my customers need new passwords?
Shopify states that customer passwords can't be migrated. On Shopify's customer accounts, customers sign in with a 6-digit code sent to their email. On legacy accounts, I send account invitations.
How long does the migration take?
It depends on the catalog, the order history, how many modifiers need rebuilding and any custom features. The fixed quote includes a timeline with dates for the test import, the build and the launch, and your BigCommerce store keeps selling until launch day.
Will my rankings drop?
Rankings can dip for a while after any platform change. Full redirects, carried-over titles and descriptions, and a Search Console check after launch keep that dip as small as possible.
