Shopify Statistics 2026: GMV, Revenue, Merchants and UK Data
Shopify's key numbers in one place, each linked to Shopify's filings, its own pages or government statistics. Checked on 7 November 2026, with the UK figures UK store owners ask me about.

Key takeaways
- Shopify merchants sold $119.1 billion of goods (GMV) in the third quarter of 2026, up 29% on a year earlier, and Shopify's revenue for the quarter was $3.742 billion, up 32%.
- For the full year 2025, GMV was $378.4 billion (up 29%) and revenue was $11.6 billion (up 30%), according to Shopify's 2025 Form 10-K.
- Shopify says it has millions of merchants in more than 175 countries. At the end of 2025, 31% of them were in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and EMEA merchants produced $2.426 billion of Shopify's 2025 revenue.
- In the UK, 28.8% of retail sales were made online in September 2026 (ONS). Every figure on this page is linked to its source and was checked on 7 November 2026.

- Nothing, every source is linked
Most "Shopify statistics" pages online repeat numbers with no source, or quote figures from three years ago. I wanted one page I could hand to clients and point to in proposals, so every number below comes from a primary source: Shopify's investor releases and annual filing, Shopify's own pages, the UK Office for National Statistics and the US Census Bureau. Each table names the source and its date, and links straight to it.
Use it as a reference sheet. If you're writing a business plan, pitching investors on a Shopify brand or deciding whether Shopify is a safe platform to build on, copy the figure together with its source and date. All money figures are in US$ unless the row says otherwise. Everything here was checked on 7 November 2026. If a number I wanted had no official, dated source, I left it out.
1. The latest quarter: Q3 2026
Shopify reported its third quarter of 2026 (July to September) on 3 November 2026. These are the headline figures from that release.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| GMV | $119.1bn | $92.0bn | Shopify Q3 2026 results, 3 Nov 2026 |
| Revenue | $3.742bn (up 32%) | $2.844bn | Shopify Q3 2026 results, 3 Nov 2026 |
| Subscription revenue | $836m | $699m | Shopify Q3 2026 results, 3 Nov 2026 |
| Merchant solutions revenue | $2.906bn | $2.145bn | Shopify Q3 2026 results, 3 Nov 2026 |
| Monthly recurring revenue | $230m | $193m | Shopify Q3 2026 results, 3 Nov 2026 |
| Free cash flow margin | 22% | 18% | Shopify Q3 2026 results, 3 Nov 2026 |
GMV grew 29% as reported, or 30% in constant currency. For the fourth quarter of 2026, Shopify guided to revenue growth at a "low-thirties percentage rate" year over year. Monthly recurring revenue (MRR) is the value of all subscription plans in effect on the last day of the quarter, excluding variable platform fees, so it tracks how much merchants pay for their plans rather than how much they sell.
Shopify at a glance, latest official figures
- GMV, Q3 2026$119.1bnUp 29% on Q3 2025.
- Revenue, Q3 2026$3.74bnUp 32% on Q3 2025.
- GMV, full year 2025$378.4bnUp 29% on 2024.
- Payments penetration, 202565.6%Share of GMV paid through Shopify Payments.
2. Full year 2025: growth and revenue mix
The annual report gives the most complete picture, because it includes figures Shopify doesn't repeat in quarterly releases. Shopify filed its 2025 Form 10-K on 11 February 2026.
| Metric | 2025 | 2024 | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| GMV | $378.4bn (up 29%) | $292.3bn | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Total revenue | $11.6bn (up 30%) | $8.9bn | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Subscription revenue | $2.8bn (up 17%) | $2.4bn | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Merchant solutions revenue | $8.8bn (up 35%) | $6.5bn | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| MRR at 31 December | $205m | $178m | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Cumulative GMV since launch | $1.6 trillion | – | Shopify investor page, checked 7 Nov 2026 |
Two details matter if you're judging the platform. Subscription revenue was 24% of total revenue in 2025, down from 26% in 2024, so Shopify earns more and more from merchant solutions, mainly Shopify Payments. That means Shopify makes more money when merchants sell more, which is a fair signal that its incentives line up with store owners. The 10-K also says most merchants are on the Basic and Grow plans, while most GMV comes from Shopify Plus and enterprise merchants.
3. Merchants and where they are
Shopify doesn't publish an exact merchant count in these sources. Its filings and investor pages say "millions of merchants" in more than 175 countries, and I've kept to that wording. The 10-K does give the split by region at the end of 2025.
| Region | Share of merchants | Source |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 44% | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Europe, Middle East and Africa | 31% | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Asia Pacific, Australia and China | 16% | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Canada | 5% | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Latin America | 5% | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
Revenue tells a slightly different story, because merchants in some regions sell more per store than others. This table shows Shopify's 2025 revenue by the location of the merchant.
| Merchant location | 2025 revenue | 2024 revenue | Share of 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $7,331m | $5,708m | 63% |
| EMEA | $2,426m | $1,707m | 21% |
| Asia Pacific | $1,128m | $885m | 10% |
| Canada | $567m | $483m | 5% |
| Latin America | $104m | $97m | 1% |
Source for the table above: Shopify's 2025 Form 10-K, note on revenue by geographic location. For UK store owners, EMEA is the line to watch: revenue from merchants in Europe, the Middle East and Africa rose from $1,707m to $2,426m in a year, an increase of about 42%, faster than Shopify's growth overall. The 10-K doesn't break EMEA down by country, so there is no official UK-only merchant or revenue figure to quote.
4. Shopify Payments and checkout
Payments is where Shopify makes most of its money, and the numbers show how many merchants use Shopify's own processor instead of a third party.
| Metric | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| GMV through Shopify Payments, 2025 | $248.1bn (65.6% of GMV) | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Same figure, 2024 | $181.0bn (61.9% of GMV) | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Adoption where available, EMEA | 83% of merchants | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Adoption where available, North America | 88% of merchants | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Adoption where available, APAC | 89% of merchants | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Countries with Shopify Payments | 41 countries and regions listed | Shopify Help Center, checked 7 Nov 2026 |
Adoption dipped slightly in 2025 (EMEA was 86% at the end of 2024), and the 10-K explains why: Shopify Payments launched in more countries, and new markets start from zero. The country count is my count of Shopify's own list of supported countries and regions, which includes the UK, the US, Australia, the Netherlands and most of the EU.
5. Black Friday Cyber Monday 2025
Shopify publishes its own results for the Black Friday to Cyber Monday weekend each year. These are the 2025 figures, released on 2 December 2025.
| Metric | BFCM 2025 | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sales by Shopify merchants | $14.6bn (up 27%) | Shopify BFCM 2025 data, 2 Dec 2025 |
| Peak sales | $5.1m per minute | Shopify BFCM 2025 data, 2 Dec 2025 |
| Buyers worldwide | 81 million+ | Shopify BFCM 2025 data, 2 Dec 2025 |
| Merchants with their best day ever | 94,900+ | Shopify BFCM 2025 data, 2 Dec 2025 |
| Cross-border orders | 16% of orders | Shopify BFCM 2025 data, 2 Dec 2025 |
| Orders paid with Shop Pay | 32% of orders | Shopify BFCM 2025 data, 2 Dec 2025 |
| Average cart | $114.70 | Shopify BFCM 2025 data, 2 Dec 2025 |
The growth rate was 24% in constant currency. The top-selling countries were the US, the UK, Australia, Germany and Canada, and London was the third-biggest city after Los Angeles and New York. Shopify notes that the data is unaudited and that some methods changed in 2025 (buyers are now counted by unique email), so don't compare every line directly with earlier years.
If you're getting ready for the next peak, my Black Friday preparation checklist turns these trends into a to-do list for your own store.
6. The wider market: UK and US ecommerce
Shopify's figures only make sense next to the size of the market. These come from government statistics offices.
| Market figure | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| UK: share of retail sales made online, Sep 2026 | 28.8% | ONS retail sales, 23 Oct 2026 |
| UK: same share, Aug 2026 | 28.9% | ONS retail sales, 23 Oct 2026 |
| UK: online sales value vs Sep 2025 | Up 6.8% | ONS retail sales, 23 Oct 2026 |
| US: ecommerce sales, Q2 2026 | $340.2bn | US Census Bureau, 18 Aug 2026 |
| US: ecommerce share of retail, Q2 2026 | 17.1% | US Census Bureau, 18 Aug 2026 |
| US: ecommerce growth vs Q2 2025 | Up 12.2% | US Census Bureau, 18 Aug 2026 |
| Shopify share of US ecommerce, 2025 | More than 14% | Shopify investor page, checked 7 Nov 2026 |
The UK figure is far higher than the US one partly because the two offices measure different things, so treat them as two separate facts rather than a ranking. Shopify's US market share figure uses US Census Bureau data for 2025 and Shopify's 2025 US GMV, excluding point-of-sale sales, according to the footnote on its investor page. The Census Bureau's Q3 2026 estimate is due on 19 November 2026.
7. What Shopify costs in the UK
UK store owners pay in sterling. These are the prices on Shopify's UK pricing page, as checked on 7 November 2026.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly | UK online cards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | £25 a month | £19 a month | 2% + 25p |
| Grow | £65 a month | £49 a month | 1.7% + 25p |
| Advanced | £344 a month | £259 a month | 1.5% + 25p |
| Plus | From £1,800 a month | – | 1.3% + 25p |
Source: Shopify UK pricing. If you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. New stores get 3 days free, then £1 a month for 3 months. My Shopify fees explained guide walks through every fee line, and the Shopify fees calculator works out your own monthly cost.
8. Apps, people and the ecosystem
| Metric | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Apps in the Shopify App Store, end of 2025 | More than 21,000 | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Shopify employees, end of 2025 | About 7,600 | Shopify 2025 Form 10-K, 11 Feb 2026 |
| Countries with Shopify merchants | 175+ | Shopify Q3 2026 results, 3 Nov 2026 |
Over 21,000 apps sounds like a strength, and it is, but it's also why so many stores I audit run slowly: each app can add scripts to every page. My guide on what apps a Shopify store uses covers the handful most stores really need.
Shopify vs WooCommerce statistics
People often search for WooCommerce and Shopify figures side by side. I haven't put WooCommerce numbers on this page because I couldn't find an official, dated figure from its owner that measures the same thing as Shopify's GMV or revenue. Third-party "market share" counts usually measure how many websites run a platform, not how much they sell, so they don't compare like for like. For a practical comparison of the two platforms, read Shopify vs WooCommerce.
Common misreads of Shopify statistics
- Treating GMV as revenue. $378.4bn is what merchants sold in 2025. Shopify's revenue was $11.6bn.
- Quoting an exact merchant count. Shopify's official sources say "millions". Any precise number you see elsewhere is an estimate.
- Mixing merchant share with revenue share. The US has 44% of merchants but produced 63% of Shopify's 2025 revenue.
- Comparing BFCM years blindly. Shopify changed how it counts buyers and packages in 2025.
- Dropping the date. These figures change every quarter. Always quote the period and the source.
Before you quote a number
| Check | Why it matters | Where to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Period is stated | Quarterly and yearly figures differ a lot | Release or 10-K heading |
| GMV or revenue is clear | They differ by a factor of about 30 | 10-K definitions |
| Currency is shown | Shopify reports in US$ | Table headers |
| Constant currency noted | Exchange rates move growth rates | Press release |
| Primary source linked | Readers and investors will check it | Sources list below |
| Checked date added | Figures update every quarter | Your own footnote |
