How the store cost calculator works

  1. 01

    Pick your market and plan

Choose the United States, the United Kingdom or Australia, then a plan and how you pay. The plan prices fill in for you.

  2. 02

    Add your sales and extras

Monthly sales and orders set your card fees. Add apps, a theme, a domain and any setup help.

  3. 03

    Read the total

You get the first-year cost, the monthly running cost and the one-off costs, plus the same total on every plan.

What the numbers mean

First-year cost

Twelve months of running costs plus your one-off costs, such as a paid theme and setup help.

Running cost per month

Your plan, apps and card fees, plus a twelfth of your yearly domain cost.

Card fees

What Shopify Payments charges on each sale: a percentage of the order plus a fixed amount. The default is the Basic plan's standard online card rate for your market.

Share of your sales

Your monthly running cost as a percentage of monthly sales, a quick check that costs are in proportion.

How to use the result

  1. 01

Pick the plan that pays for itself

Higher plans cost more each month but charge lower card rates. As sales grow, compare plans with your real numbers before you upgrade.

  2. 02

Pay yearly once you are settled

Yearly billing costs less per month. Switch once you know the store is staying.

  3. 03

    Keep an eye on apps

Apps are often the cost that grows fastest. List the ones you really need and check their prices on the Shopify App Store before you install them.

What the calculator leaves out

  • US, UK and Australian plan prices and card rates are Shopify's standard rates as shown on shopify.com on 7 November 2026, before tax. Netherlands prices and card rates are from Shopify's Dutch pricing as reported in October 2026. Shopify shows prices by location and sometimes tests different prices, so edit the plan price if yours differs. Promotions, Shopify Plus, POS hardware, other payment providers' fees and conversion fees are left out.

Questions about Shopify costs

Plan prices, yearly billing, themes and what a store costs to build.

Ask me about your store
How much does a Shopify store cost to run?

For a small store, mostly the plan, card fees and a few apps. On the Basic plan billed yearly, with 3,000 in monthly sales over 60 orders and 30 a month in apps, running costs come to about 4% of sales in the UK and about 5% in the US. Try it with your own numbers.

What are Shopify's plan prices?

As shown on shopify.com on 7 November 2026: in the US, Basic is $19, Grow $49 and Advanced $299 a month billed yearly ($25, $65 and $399 billed monthly). In the UK they are £19, £49 and £259 billed yearly, and in Australia A$42, A$114 and A$431. For the Netherlands the calculator uses €21, €59 and €289 billed yearly (€28, €78 and €384 monthly), from Shopify's Dutch pricing as reported in October 2026. Shopify shows prices by location, so check the price shown to you and edit it in the calculator if it differs.

Is paying yearly cheaper?

Yes. In the US, Basic billed yearly is $19 a month instead of $25, which saves $72 a year. The calculator shows the saving for whichever plan you pick.

Do I need a paid theme?

No. Shopify's free themes, such as Dawn, are fast and work well for most new stores. A paid theme is a one-off cost that adds features or a different look.

What does the calculator leave out?

Stock, shipping, marketing, Shopify Plus, POS hardware and fees from payment providers other than Shopify Payments. The full breakdown is in how much a Shopify store costs.

How much does it cost to have a Shopify store built?

It depends on the work. Building it yourself costs your time. If you hire help, ask for a fixed quote. My store design and development starts from $300.
