PrestaShop to Shopify migration

I move PrestaShop stores to Shopify with products, combinations, customers and order history in place, and a 301 redirect for every old .html URL. You get a store that's easier to run, and your search traffic has a clear path to the new pages.

Moving off PrestaShop, done properly

PrestaShop puts the product ID into every product URL. Its default route ends in something like /12-linen-shirt.html, and PrestaShop's own docs say the ID can't be removed by default. Shopify uses /products/linen-shirt, so every product, category and CMS page gets a new address. Shopify only redirects URLs that no longer load, and standard plans allow up to 100,000 redirects. I build the redirect map from a crawl of your live store, not only the database, so old language versions and filtered category pages aren't missed.

Getting the data out is the easy part. PrestaShop's customer list has an Export button, and the SQL Manager under Advanced Parameters downloads any query as a CSV. Shopify's free Store Migration app doesn't list PrestaShop as a source, so I move products, combinations, features, customers and orders through CSV files, a migration app or the Shopify Admin API, depending on size. Combinations become variants. Shopify's product CSV has three option columns, so a product built from four attribute groups needs a decision before import, and I make it with you.

Two things need care. Shopify says customer passwords can't be migrated from another store, because they're encrypted. With new customer accounts that matters less: customers sign in with a one-time 6-digit code sent by email, so nobody resets anything. Orders can't be imported through the Shopify admin, so past orders come in through an app or the API, with staff order notifications switched off first.

Every module gets a verdict: a Shopify app, a theme feature, a small custom build or nothing at all. If you want the new store to sell better too, my team handles Shopify CRO after launch.

Signs it's time to move

  • A PrestaShop or PHP update means a developer, a backup and a weekend of testing
  • Modules conflict after updates, and you hear about it from customers
  • Hosting, security patches and backups are still your job
  • Checkout feels slow and dated on mobile next to your competitors
  • You pay a developer for maintenance instead of new features

What the migration includes

Store audit and data map

I list every product type, attribute group, feature, language and module, and agree where each one lives on Shopify before anything moves.

Products and combinations

Products, combinations, images, features, stock, SKUs and barcodes move as Shopify products, variants and metafields.

Customers and orders

Customers, addresses and marketing consent move, and past orders are imported through an app or the Admin API so customers can see their history.

Redirects for every URL

Each old .html product, category and CMS page URL gets a 301 redirect to its new Shopify address, tested before the domain moves.

Theme, payments and shipping

Your store is built on a Shopify theme in your brand, with payments, shipping rates and taxes set up and test orders placed.

Module replacement

Each PrestaShop module is matched to a Shopify app, a theme feature or custom code, so you don't pay for apps you don't need.

Why migrate with my team

01

Built to sell, not just copied

I'm a CRO specialist as well as a developer, so product pages, filters and checkout are set up to convert, not only to match the old site.

02

A fixed quote, agreed upfront

Migration work has no set price. After a free 3‑point review you get a fixed quote, and any change in scope is agreed in writing first.

How the migration works

  1. 1

    Free review and plan

I review your PrestaShop store, catalog, modules and search traffic, then send a migration plan with a fixed quote.

  2. 2

    Test migration

Everything is imported into a Shopify development store, and you check products, customers and orders against PrestaShop.

  3. 3

    Build and redirects

The theme, apps, payments and shipping are set up, and every old URL is mapped and tested.

  4. 4

    Launch and aftercare

A final sync brings in the latest orders and customers, the domain moves, and I watch Search Console and orders closely in the weeks after.

Is this migration right for you

A good fit

  • You run PrestaShop and want to stop managing hosting, updates and module conflicts
  • Your catalog has combinations, features and search traffic you can't afford to lose
  • You sell in more than one language or currency and want it all in one admin
  • You want one accountable team for data, design, redirects and launch

Not the right fit

  • You need to host the shop yourself or change the platform's core code
  • Your business runs on a custom module with no Shopify equivalent and no budget to rebuild it
  • You have a small catalog and only need products imported: a CSV import may be enough

Migration questions, answered.

What store owners ask before moving to Shopify.

Ask me about your store
How long does a PrestaShop to Shopify migration take?

It depends on catalog size, languages and modules. A store with a few hundred products and standard modules usually takes a few weeks from plan to launch, and large or multi-language catalogs take longer. You get a timeline with the fixed quote.

How much does it cost to migrate PrestaShop to Shopify?

There's no set price, because the work depends on your products, languages, order history and modules. After a free 3‑point review I send a fixed quote. Shopify's own plans start at $19 a month on Basic, billed yearly.

Will I lose my Google rankings?

Every PrestaShop URL changes, so rankings depend on the redirects. I map each old URL to its closest new page, test the list before launch and watch Search Console after the switch. A short dip while Google recrawls is normal. A lasting drop usually means missed redirects, which is what the testing is for.

Can my customers keep their passwords?

No. Shopify says customer passwords can't be migrated from another store, because they're encrypted. With new customer accounts, customers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email, so they don't need a new password at all.

Can I bring my order history?

Yes. Orders can't be imported through the Shopify admin, so I bring them in through a migration app or the Admin API, after products and customers. Staff order notifications are switched off first, so your team doesn't get an email for every old order.

Can Shopify's Store Migration app move a PrestaShop store?

Not directly. Its App Store listing names Square, WooCommerce, Etsy, Wix, Amazon, eBay, Clover and Lightspeed as sources, and it handles products and customers only. For PrestaShop I use CSV exports, a migration app or the API.

What happens to a multi-language PrestaShop store?

Shopify handles languages and currencies through Markets in one store. Translations are imported with the products, and the old language URLs get their own redirects, so a French product page lands on the French version of the new page.

Do I have to stop selling during the move?

No. PrestaShop stays live while I build and test on Shopify. At launch a final sync brings in the newest orders and customers, then the domain switches over.
