Shopify B2B and wholesale, set up properly

Overview
Wholesale on Shopify, without Plus
Shopify B2B is now part of the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans, not just Plus. As listed in Shopify's Help Center on 7 November 2026, every eligible plan includes companies and company locations, net terms, payment reminders, vaulted credit cards, PO numbers, quantity rules, volume pricing, draft orders sent as invoices, checkout to draft, quick order lists and the Trade theme. It isn't available on Starter or Retail.
The limits are where setups go wrong. Basic, Grow and Advanced allow up to 3 active catalogue assignments across active B2B markets, so price tiers have to be planned, not added one customer at a time. Contextual checkout and storefront through Shopify Markets start on Advanced, and sales staff permissions start on Grow. Plus removes the catalogue cap and adds direct company catalogues, deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfilment. I work out which of these you need before recommending a plan, and the B2B and wholesale cost guide shows what each option costs to run.
Trade buyers also need Shopify's current customer accounts. Shopify says legacy customer accounts can't be used for B2B customers and orders. Buyers sign in with a 6-digit code sent to their email, so there are no passwords to manage, but every buyer has to be linked to the right company location first.
Then there's the choice Shopify leaves to you: one store for both B2B and retail, or a separate B2B-only store. A blended store keeps one catalogue and one stock count; a separate one suits a very different range, brand or team. My step-by-step B2B setup guide shows the admin side if you'd rather do it yourself. If you want it done and tested, the work starts from $400, with a fixed quote in writing after a free review.
Signs you need this
- Trade customers email or phone in orders that your team types up by hand.
- Wholesale buyers can see retail prices, or retail shoppers can see trade prices.
- You pay for a wholesale app and don't know whether Shopify's built-in B2B could replace it.
- Payment terms, minimum orders and case packs live in spreadsheets, not in the store.
- You want to sell to shops in the UK, EU, US or Australia without running a second platform.
What the service includes
Plan and structure advice
Which plan you need, how many price tiers fit inside the catalogue limit, and whether one store or two suits your business.
Catalogues and price lists
Trade catalogues with percentage adjustments or fixed prices, plus quantity rules for minimums, maximums and case-pack increments, and volume price breaks.
Companies and locations
Your trade customers set up as companies, with each location given its own contact, permissions, catalogue and payment terms.
Terms and payments
Net terms, payment reminders, vaulted cards and PO numbers, plus deposits and partial payments on Plus, all tested on real draft orders.
Trade storefront
A B2B experience on the Trade theme or your current theme, with quick order lists, easy reorders and a clear sign-up route for new accounts.
Integrations and custom features
Where Shopify doesn't cover a need, such as an ERP or accounting sync, I build it through my custom app development service.
Benefits
Why set up B2B with me
The setup order done right
Catalogues, markets, companies and buyer access have to be set up in sequence. Doing it out of order is the usual reason trade buyers end up seeing retail prices.
Honest plan advice
If Basic or Grow covers your wholesale, I'll say so, and I only recommend Plus when its B2B features earn their cost.

How it works
How it works
- 1
Free review
I look at your products, trade customers, current pricing and terms, then send three points on what to set up first.
- 2
Fixed quote and plan
You get a written scope covering tiers, companies, payment terms and integrations, with a fixed quote and timeline.
- 3
Build and import
Catalogues, companies and locations are created, trade customer data is imported, and the B2B storefront is built alongside retail.
- 4
Test orders and launch
I place test orders as different buyers on different terms, check prices and invoices, then help you invite your trade customers.
Is it a fit?
Is this service right for you
A good fit
- You sell to retailers, salons, gyms or other businesses as well as to consumers.
- You have 2 or 3 clear price tiers, or need prices per account on Plus.
- You want trade orders, stock and retail in one Shopify admin.
- You offer, or want to offer, net terms to approved accounts.
- You'd rather have it tested end to end than learn the setup yourself.
Not the right fit
- You have a handful of trade customers who order a few times a year. Draft orders may be all you need.
- You're on Starter or Retail and don't plan to change plan, since B2B isn't available there.
- Your wholesale runs through an ERP ordering portal you're happy with and don't plan to replace.

FAQ
Your questions, answered.
What store owners ask before starting this kind of project.
Ask me about your storeCan I use Shopify B2B without Plus?
Yes. Shopify B2B is available on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. Below Plus you get up to 3 active catalogue assignments across B2B markets and no deposits or partial payments, which still covers most wholesale setups with a few clear price tiers.
How much does Shopify B2B setup cost?
It starts from $400. The exact price depends on how many tiers, companies and locations you have, whether data needs importing, and whether anything needs custom development. I review your store for free and send a fixed quote, in writing.
Can wholesale and retail run in the same store?
Yes. Shopify supports one store for both B2B and direct-to-consumer sales, or a separate B2B-only store. I recommend one based on your range, branding and team.
Do I still need a wholesale app?
Often not. Built-in B2B covers price lists, quantity rules, net terms and reorders. Apps still fill some gaps, and I check those against your needs before you pay for one.
How do trade buyers sign in?
Through Shopify's current customer accounts. They enter the email address linked to their company location and get a 6-digit code by email. Legacy customer accounts can't be used for B2B.
Can I offer net terms such as 30 days?
Yes, on every plan that includes B2B. Payment terms are set per company location, and Shopify can send payment reminders. Deposits and partial payments are Plus only.
What about buyers in different countries?
ACH payments are available to US stores only. For buyers in the UK, EU and Australia, I set up terms and payment methods that suit each market, and on Advanced or Plus, contextual checkout by market.
Can you connect B2B to my ERP or accounting system?
Yes, where the system has an API. Shopify Flow can use B2B data on every eligible plan, and for deeper syncs I build a custom app. That work is scoped into the same fixed quote.
Keep exploring
