Shopify analytics and tracking setup
I set up GA4, Shopify customer events and consent so every purchase is counted once and your reports line up with your orders. This is measurement only: I set up tracking, I don't run ads. You get a fixed quote in writing after a free review.

Overview
Tracking you can actually trust
Bad tracking is worse than none, because you make decisions on it. The usual Shopify problems are the same on most stores I review: a purchase counted twice because an old theme snippet and an app both send it, GA4 revenue nowhere near Shopify's order total, and tags that fire before a UK or EU visitor has answered the cookie banner. A Shopify analytics setup fixes the plumbing so you can read the numbers that matter without second-guessing them.
Shopify now handles tracking through customer events. As checked on 7 November 2026, pixels are managed under Settings > Customer events, and they run on the online store, customer account pages and checkout. There are two kinds. App pixels come from marketing and analytics apps, and Shopify recommends them when one exists. Custom pixels are added by a developer for anything an app pixel can't cover. They run in a sandbox, can collect events on checkout and post-purchase pages, and Shopify states that adding them is unsupported and that compliance and code are the store's responsibility. That is the part I take on.
Consent comes next. Shopify's cookie banner, under Settings > Customer privacy, can be set automatically for the UK and EEA when you have active markets there, and in those regions non-essential data is collected only after consent. If you use a third-party consent app, its regions have to match Shopify's, or data can be processed before the visitor agrees. I set that up and test it in each consent state. My guide to cookie consent on Shopify explains the options.
GA4 connects through Shopify's Google & YouTube channel, and I check every ecommerce event with test orders. Clean data is also where CRO work starts. The setup starts from $150, with a fixed quote in writing after a free review.
Signs you need this
- GA4 revenue and Shopify sales never match, and nobody can explain the gap.
- Purchases are counted twice in some reports and missing from others.
- Old tracking code from removed apps still sits in your theme.
- You sell to the UK or EU and don't know whether tags wait for consent.
- You can't see where buyers drop out between product page and checkout.
What the service includes
Tracking audit
Every tag, app pixel, custom pixel and theme snippet found and listed, with duplicates and dead code marked.
GA4 connection
GA4 connected through Shopify's Google & YouTube channel, with the property, data stream and tag checked.
Customer events setup
App pixels used wherever one exists, and custom pixels only where needed, all managed in Settings > Customer events.
Ecommerce events tested
Product views, add to cart, checkout started and purchase tested with real test orders, so each one fires once.
Consent configuration
Shopify's cookie banner or your consent app set for the regions you sell to, with matching regions so data waits for consent.
Conversion tracking for your tools
Pixels for the marketing platforms you use installed through their official apps, as measurement, so whoever runs your campaigns sees accurate conversions.
Benefits
Why set up tracking with me
Built for decisions
I run CRO and SEO projects on Shopify, so tracking is set up around the questions you need answered, not every event a tool can send.
Cleaned before anything is added
Old snippets and duplicate pixels come out first, so every event has one source and one count.

How it works
How it works
- 1
Free review and fixed quote
I check your tags, pixels, consent setup and the path of a test order, send three findings, then a fixed quote.
- 2
Measurement plan
We agree the events and reports you need, and treat Shopify orders as the source of truth for revenue.
- 3
Clean up and set up
Old code is removed, GA4 is connected, and pixels and consent are configured for your markets.
- 4
Test and hand over
Test orders run with consent accepted and declined, GA4 is compared with Shopify, and you get the full tracking map.
Is it a fit?
Is this service right for you
A good fit
- You make decisions from GA4 or marketing platform reports and need them to be accurate.
- You sell into the UK or EU and need tracking that respects consent.
- You changed theme or platform and nobody has checked tracking since.
- You plan CRO work or A/B tests and need a clean baseline first.
- You want one fixed quote and a written record of what was set up.
Not the right fit
- You want someone to run or optimise your ad campaigns. I don't offer that.
- You expect GA4 to match Shopify order for order. Declined consent and blocked scripts mean it won't, and I'll explain the gap instead.
- You need legal advice on your privacy policy. I configure the tools, and a lawyer or adviser covers the wording.

FAQ
Your questions, answered.
What store owners ask before starting this kind of project.
Ask me about your storeHow much does a Shopify analytics setup cost?
It starts from $150. The exact price depends on how many tools, pixels and markets are involved and how much old code needs removing. I review your tracking for free and send a fixed quote in writing. If you want conversion work after the setup, Shopify CRO starts from $500, and Shopify SEO starts from $200.
Why don't GA4 and Shopify show the same sales?
Shopify records every order. GA4 only sees visits where its tag loads, and in consent regions only visitors who accept non-essential tracking. Duplicate tags can also inflate GA4. I remove the duplicates, use Shopify orders as the revenue figure, and use GA4 for behaviour and traffic sources.
Do you run or manage ad campaigns?
No. I set up measurement: GA4, Shopify customer events, platform pixels and consent. Your team or agency runs the campaigns and gets accurate conversion data to work with.
What are Shopify customer events?
Customer events are Shopify's system for tracking what shoppers do, such as viewing a product or adding to cart. Pixels that collect them are managed under Settings > Customer events. Standard events include product_viewed, product_added_to_cart, checkout_started and checkout_completed.
Can you track the checkout?
Yes. Pixels in customer events run on checkout as well as the storefront, and Shopify states that custom pixels can collect events on checkout and post-purchase pages. I test each checkout step with test orders.
Do I need a cookie banner?
If you sell to the UK or EEA, Shopify's automated settings show its banner there when you have active markets in those regions, and non-essential data waits for consent. You can also turn it on for other regions. For what the law requires of your business, check with an adviser.
Can I use my own consent app instead of Shopify's banner?
Yes. Shopify says to install one from the cookie consent category, remove Shopify's banner where possible, and match the consent regions to the app's. If the regions don't match, non-essential data can be processed before a visitor consents, so I check this carefully.
