Google Shopping Ads Not Showing? How to Fix It
Most Shopping ads that won't show have a Merchant Center or store issue. Here's the order to check things, with the Shopify-specific fixes.

Key takeaways
- When Google Shopping ads aren't showing, the cause is usually in Merchant Center: products disapproved, not synced or missing required data.
- In Google Ads, hover over the campaign status to see what share of your ads is eligible. Ads marked Disapproved, Under review or Approved (limited) may not serve.
- On Shopify stores, common blockers are a password page, missing refund policy or terms in the footer, hidden contact details and shipping rates outside the General profile.
- Don't search for your own ads to check. Use Google's Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool instead.

- What you need
- Merchant Center and Google Ads access
If your Google Shopping ads aren't showing, check Merchant Center first: most of the time products are disapproved, not synced from Shopify, or missing data such as a GTIN or shipping rate. Then check the campaign in Google Ads, where hovering over the status shows what percentage of ads can serve. Budget, bids, campaign priority and negative keywords come after that.
I set up Shopify stores for Google's product feeds and fix the store side when listings fail; I don't manage ad spend. Steps below were checked on Google Ads Help, Merchant Center Help and Shopify's help center on 7 November 2026.
Work through it in order
Why are my Google Shopping ads not showing?
- 1
Are products approved in Merchant Center?
No: fix the product or account issues listedYes: go to 2
- 2
Does the campaign status show ads as eligible?
No: check ad status and Policy ManagerYes: go to 3
- 3
Are budget, bids and locations set to reach buyers?
No: adjust budget, bids or targetingYes: go to 4
- 4
Is the product in another campaign with higher priority?
Yes: review campaign priority and negativesNo: test with Ad Preview and Diagnosis
Most fixes happen at step 1, in Merchant Center or the Shopify store.
1. Merchant Center: approvals and data
Google requires certain data for every product: an ID, title, description, link, image link, availability and price, plus brand for new products and an MPN where there's no GTIN. Google warns that an incorrect GTIN causes disapproval, so only submit one you're sure of.
Account-level rules matter too. Merchant Center expects easy-to-find contact details, a returns and refund policy, a checkout that works, and products that are actually for sale on your site. Your website, product data and landing pages should be in the same language.
Shopify-specific causes
| Issue | What Shopify requires | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Store password | Store can't be in private mode | Remove the password page |
| Policies | Refund policy and terms in footer | Add both to the footer menu |
| Contact details | At least one visible method | Add a contact page |
| Shipping | Only General profile rates sync | Move rates or fix profiles |
| Identifiers | GTIN, or MPN and brand | Fill in product fields |
| Variants | Options in English to sync | Rename option values |
The Google & YouTube channel in Shopify shows product status and warnings, so start there. My guide to setting up Google Merchant Center on Shopify covers each requirement, and writing a returns policy helps with the policy part.
2 to 4. Google Ads: status, budget and priority
- Ad status. Google Ads Help says Shopping ads with a status of Disapproved, Under review or Approved (limited) may not serve. Hover over the campaign status to see what percentage of ads are eligible, and use Policy Manager for account-wide issues.
- Linked account. The campaign must use the Merchant Center account that holds your products. You can't change it after creating the campaign.
- Locations. Ads only show in countries where your products are sold, even if the campaign targets all countries.
- Priority. Campaign priority only matters when the same product sits in more than one campaign. It decides which campaign's budget is used.
- Negatives and bids. Negative keywords at campaign or account level, or bids set too low, can stop impressions.
Once they show, make the click count
A Shopping click lands on a product page after the shopper has compared your price with others. Make sure the price and stock match the ad, and that delivery cost and reviews are visible. My Google Shopping strategy guide covers the campaign side, and are Google Shopping ads worth it covers whether to scale.
What to do next
- Open the Google & YouTube channel and fix product warnings.
- Check Merchant Center for account and product issues.
- Hover over the campaign status to see eligibility.
- Ask for a free store review if the store side is the blocker; my CRO work starts from $500.

Frequently asked questions
Why are my Google Shopping ads not showing?
Usually because products are disapproved or not synced in Merchant Center, or required data like a GTIN or shipping rate is missing. After that, check campaign status, budget, bids and priority.
How do I see if my Shopping ads are eligible?
In Google Ads, hover over the campaign status to see what percentage of ads are eligible to show. Use Policy Manager for policy issues across the account.
Why are my Shopify products disapproved in Merchant Center?
Common causes are a password-protected store, missing refund policy or terms in the footer, hidden contact details, wrong GTINs, and shipping rates outside the General profile.
Should I search Google to see my ads?
No. Google recommends the Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool for checking a published campaign. Searching for your own ads repeatedly isn't a reliable test.
Does campaign priority stop ads showing?
It can affect which campaign serves a product when the same product is in more than one campaign. Check which campaign holds the product and its priority setting.
Can I change the Merchant Center account on a campaign?
No. Google says you can't change the linked Merchant Center account after the campaign is created, so check it's the right one before you start.
