How Much Does Klaviyo Cost for a Small Store?
Klaviyo is free up to 250 active profiles, then starts at $20 a month. Here is what a small store pays at each list size, and the one number that drives the bill.

Key takeaways
- Klaviyo is free for up to 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month, as checked on klaviyo.com/pricing on 7 November 2026.
- The Email plan starts at $20 a month for 500 active profiles and 5,000 emails. The Marketing plan starts at $25 for the same limits.
- You pay by active profiles, meaning contacts you can market to, not by emails sent. Every plan step includes 10 emails per profile per month.
- At 2,500 profiles the Email plan costs $60 a month, and at 5,000 profiles it costs $100.

For a small store, Klaviyo costs nothing up to 250 active profiles, then $20 a month for up to 500 profiles on the Email plan. A store with up to 5,000 profiles pays between $20 and $100 a month on that plan, based on Klaviyo's pricing page as checked on 7 November 2026. The bill grows with your list, so the number to watch is active profiles, not how many emails you send.
Klaviyo's plans in 2026
| Plan | Starts at | Includes | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 250 profiles, 500 emails a month | Testing, a first list |
| $20 a month | 500 profiles, 5,000 emails | Email-only stores | |
| Marketing | $25 a month | 500 profiles, 5,000 emails | Email plus social and reviews |
| Custom | Quoted | Over 150,000 profiles | Large brands |
The Free plan includes email support for the first 60 days only, then you rely on the help center and community. The Email plan adds limited versions of Klaviyo's extras, such as reviews for up to 50 orders a month. The Marketing plan removes the review order limit and extends social marketing and Customer Hub to all your active profiles.
SMS is where the plan names can mislead. The plan cards list $5 of mobile messages a month on Free and Email, while the comparison table lists SMS as an add-on for the paid plans. In practice, budget for text messages as a separate cost. The Klaviyo Shopify App Store listing shows an SMS plan at $15 a month for up to 1,250 SMS/MMS credits, including carrier fees.
What you pay as your list grows
| Active profiles | Email plan | Marketing plan | Emails a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $20 | $25 | 5,000 |
| 1,000 | $30 | $40 | 10,000 |
| 1,500 | $45 | $60 | 15,000 |
| 2,500 | $60 | $80 | 25,000 |
| 5,000 | $100 | $130 | 50,000 |
These are the monthly prices from the slider on Klaviyo's pricing page. When I checked, the Marketing plan also showed a $1 first-month offer on eligible plans up to 5,000 active profiles.
What counts as an active profile
Klaviyo defines an active profile as any contact in your database that you can market to. That makes list hygiene a direct cost lever: contacts you have suppressed or who have unsubscribed are no longer contacts you can market to.
Klaviyo or something cheaper
Shopify Email is the obvious cheaper option: its App Store listing says your first 10,000 emails each month are free, with pricing from $1 per 1,000 emails after that. For a store sending a monthly newsletter to a few hundred people, that is hard to beat.
Klaviyo earns its price when you need segmentation built on order data, such as browse abandonment, winback flows and repeat-purchase timing. My Klaviyo vs Mailchimp comparison covers the other common choice, and what Shopify apps really cost puts email in context with the rest of your app bill.
Outside the US
I checked Klaviyo's US pricing page, which shows prices in $. If you sign up from the UK, the EU or Australia, confirm the currency and price in your account before you upgrade. SMS and WhatsApp messages are priced by destination country, so a UK or Australian SMS list costs differently from a US one.
Consent rules matter more than price in the UK and the EU, where marketing email needs a lawful basis and usually opt-in consent. That changes how fast your list grows, and my GDPR guide for Shopify stores covers the store side.
What to do next
- Start on Free. Connect your Shopify store and build the welcome, abandoned checkout and post-purchase flows first.
- Watch the 250 mark. Upgrade when you pass it, not before.
- Clean the list monthly. Suppress unengaged contacts so you never pay for people who ignore you.
- Check page speed. Email sign-up forms load scripts on every page. If your store has slowed down, my speed optimization work starts from $100 with a fixed quote.
